Core functions / products of CSDD:

- maintains the Register of Vehicles and Drivers, develops solutions for its use in the interests of the state, business entities and persons
- registers road vehicles and issues registration documents and registration number plates
- registers motorboats, watercrafts, row-boats and issues registration documents and registration number plates
- endows with rights to drive a vehicle and to debar from these rights, and issues driving licenses
- carries out roadworthiness tests and road-side checks of road vehicles
- carries out conformity assessment and certification of road vehicles
- keeps community informed and aware of road traffic safety issues (road traffic safety social campaigns and information activities for different groups of society)
- carries out road safety audits and general supervision
- manages Riga Motor Museum and its exhibition in Bauska
- manages Biķernieki Complex Sports Base and to develop it as sporting, recreation and cultural centre of state importance
- ensures collection of taxes, duties and penalties
