Mark Rothko (Marcus Rothkowitz, 1903-1970) the monumental figure of the 20th century art was born in Daugavpils, Latvia (then Dvinsk, Russia). Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre is located in the former Artillery Arsenal building (1833) of Dinaburg Fortress, where history goes hand in hand with contemporary art and creates a unique and inspiring place for creative expression and experience. Visitors may see Rothko’s works and exhibits dedicated to his life, art and his early years in Daugavpils. Other exhibits include the art works of international and national artists.
